==Early life==
Son of C. Hlunthuama, Silvera was born in Muallianpui village in southern Mizoram.<ref name=indiapress/> He studied medicine at [Christian Medical College, Vellore](/source/Christian_Medical_College%2C_Vellore), and earned his MBBS in 1964.
