'''Byangum''' is a town in north-eastern [New South Wales](/source/New_South_Wales), Australia, in the [Tweed Shire](/source/Tweed_Shire). It is a suburb of [Murwillumbah](/source/Murwillumbah) and it sits {{Convert|5|km|mi}} south west.

The [Ngandowal](/source/Nganduwal_language) and [Minyungbal](/source/Minyungbal_language) speaking people of the [Bundjalung people](/source/Bundjalung_people) are the [traditional owners](/source/traditional_owners) of Byangum and the surrounding area. == Origin of place name ==
The name Byangum is taken from the [Bundjalung language](/source/Yugambeh%E2%80%93Bundjalung_languages) and there a number of theories as to where it originated with some believing it is a corruption of the word ''bean-gum'', meaning 'farther place' and others that it is taken from ''buyaugun'' which is 'a land curlew'.
