'''Ralph Francis "Buzz" Boyle''' (February 9, 1908 – November 12, 1978) was an American professional [baseball](/source/baseball) player who played as an [outfielder](/source/outfielder) in [Major League Baseball](/source/Major_League_Baseball) from 1929 through 1935. He played for the [Boston Braves](/source/Boston_Braves_(baseball)) and [Brooklyn Dodgers](/source/Brooklyn_Dodgers). In 1934, his most productive year in the majors, Boyle hit .305 for the Dodgers, led the major leagues with  20 outfield assists, and received National League MVP votes. Listed at {{height|ft=5|in=11}}, 170 lb., Boyle batted and threw left-handed. Born in [Cincinnati](/source/Cincinnati), he attended [Xavier University](/source/Xavier_University).

In 366 games over five seasons, Boyle posted a .290 [batting average](/source/batting_average_(baseball)) (389-for-1343) with 185 [runs](/source/run_(baseball)), 58 [doubles](/source/double_(baseball)), 24 [triples](/source/triple_(baseball)), 12 [home runs](/source/home_runs), 125 [RBI](/source/Run_batted_in), 24 [stolen bases](/source/stolen_bases), 116 [bases on balls](/source/bases_on_balls), .347 [on-base percentage](/source/on-base_percentage) and .395 [slugging percentage](/source/slugging_percentage). He finished his career with a .970 [fielding percentage](/source/fielding_percentage) playing at all three outfield positions.

Boyle also managed for the [Muskegon Lassies](/source/Muskegon_Lassies) of the [All-American Girls Professional Baseball League](/source/All-American_Girls_Professional_Baseball_League) in [its 1946 season](/source/Muskegon_Lassies). Noted sports columnist [Steve Rushin](/source/Steve_Rushin) is his great-nephew.

Boyle died in 1978 at his hometown of Cincinnati at the age of 70.
