The '''Butwal Technical Institute''' (BTI) is a community based technical school located in [Butwal](/source/Butwal), [Nepal](/source/Nepal). The school was established in 1963 by [United Mission to Nepal](/source/United_Mission_to_Nepal) (UMN) in the leadership of [Odd Hoftun](/source/Odd_Hoftun),<ref>{{cite journal |last1=Follesdal |first1=Andreas |title=Review of 'Kraftverket: Odd Hoftun: Portrett Av Et Livsverk' |date=2011}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web| last = Magazine| first = New Spolight| title = On Hydropower| work = SpotlightNepal| accessdate = 2020-08-06| url = https://www.spotlightnepal.com/2015/08/28/on-hydropower/}}</ref> a Norwegian Engineer. At that time, Odd Hoftun was deputed for the construction of [Tansen Mission Hospital](/source/Tansen_Mission_Hospital) by UMN. During the construction of the hospital, he could not find local skilled people. BTI employs production-based training. The training programme in BTI has four-year apprenticeship style. The trainees receive classroom instruction followed by comprehensive practical and on-the-job training in collaboration with the affiliated companies.
