# Butam language

**Butam** is a possibly extinct [Papuan language](/source/Papuan_language) spoken in [East New Britain Province](/source/East_New_Britain_Province) on the island of [New Britain](/source/New_Britain), [Papua New Guinea](/source/Papua_New_Guinea). It is related to [Taulil](/source/Taulil_language). Like the Taulil, the Butam people had originally migrated from [New Ireland](/source/New_Ireland_(island)).[1]
