**Burgess Jenkins** (born October 24, 1973)[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*] is an American [actor](/source/Actor) and director who has had a steady career in television and film for more than two decades. He is best known for his role as Bobby Irons on *[One Tree Hill](/source/One_Tree_Hill_(TV_series)),* Ray Budds in the film *[Remember the Titans](/source/Remember_the_Titans)* opposite [Denzel Washington](/source/Denzel_Washington), and as [Hilary Swank](/source/Hilary_Swank)'s husband David Winter in the film *[The Reaping](/source/The_Reaping)* (2007).

## Early life

Jenkins was born and raised in [Winston-Salem, North Carolina](/source/Winston-Salem%2C_North_Carolina)[1] and is a graduate of [Richard J. Reynolds High School](/source/Richard_J._Reynolds_High_School) and [Lenoir-Rhyne University](/source/Lenoir-Rhyne_University).[2]

Jenkins portrayed religious leader [John Wesley](/source/John_Wesley) in the award-winning independent film *[Wesley](/source/Wesley_(film))*[3] (2009) with [Kevin McCarthy](/source/Kevin_McCarthy_(actor)) and [June Lockhart](/source/June_Lockhart).[4]

On television, Jenkins played Bobby Irons throughout [season six](/source/One_Tree_Hill_(season_6)) on the hit CW series *[One Tree Hill](/source/One_Tree_Hill_(TV_series))*,[1] recurred on *[Marry Me](/source/Marry_Me_(miniseries))* with [Lucy Liu](/source/Lucy_Liu) and Tony & Ridley Scott's A&E Thriller *COMA*.
