'''Floyd "Bud" Gaugh''' is an American [drummer](/source/drummer) who is a member of the band [Sublime](/source/Sublime_(band)), and previously played in [Long Beach Dub Allstars](/source/Long_Beach_Dub_Allstars) (1997–2002), [Eyes Adrift](/source/Eyes_Adrift) (2002–2003), [Volcano](/source/Volcano_(supergroup)) (2004), and [Sublime with Rome](/source/Sublime_with_Rome) (2009–2011), as well as Phil & the Blanx, Del Mar, and [Jelly of the Month Club](/source/Todd_Forman).

==Biography==
===Early life===
Gaugh was born in Hawaii but grew up in [Long Beach, California](/source/Long_Beach%2C_California).<ref>{{cite news |last1=Wake |first1=Matt |title=Sublime’s bittersweet rebirth: ‘Sometimes you just gotta wait for it’ |url=https://www.al.com/life/2024/10/an-iconic-90s-bands-bittersweet-success-and-full-circle-redemption.html |access-date=16 November 2024 |work=AL.com |date=8 October 2024 |language=en}}</ref>

Gaugh was childhood friends with [Eric Wilson](/source/Eric_Wilson_(bassist)). Gaugh stated that Eric's father, Bill, "was like a second father to me, a total inspiration".<ref name=weiss/> Bill Wilson taught Gaugh how to play drums. Gaugh and Eric Wilson played together in [garage punk](/source/Garage_punk_(fusion_genre)) bands, such as Juice Bros., throughout high school.<ref>{{cite web |last1=Smith |first1=RJ |title=Drug Bust: Our 1997 Sublime Feature |url=https://www.spin.com/2021/05/sublime-drug-bust-1997-feature/ |website=SPIN |access-date=16 November 2024 |date=25 May 2021}}</ref>

===1988–1996: Sublime===
Eric Wilson introduced Gaugh to [Bradley Nowell](/source/Bradley_Nowell), and the trio went on to form Sublime in 1988.<ref name=weiss>{{cite web |last1=Weiss |first1=Jeff |title=The Sun Gods of the LBC: The Last Days of Sublime and the Birth of Their Self-Titled Masterpiece |url=https://www.theringer.com/music/2021/7/30/22596687/sublime-self-titled-anniversary-bradley-nowell-death |website=The Ringer |access-date=16 November 2024 |language=en |date=30 July 2021}}</ref><ref name="Time">{{cite magazine|url=http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,984977-1,00.html|title=Sublime: When the Music's Over|last=Farley|first=Christopher John|date=1996-08-12|access-date=2011-01-31|magazine=Time|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110629034523/http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,984977-1,00.html|archive-date=June 29, 2011|df=mdy-all}}</ref> Gaugh's drumming is heard on all three of the band's studio albums: ''[40oz. to Freedom](/source/40oz._to_Freedom)'' (1992), ''[Robbin' the Hood](/source/Robbin'_the_Hood)'' (1994), and ''[Sublime](/source/Sublime_(album))'' (1996).

Around 1990, according to [Marshall Goodman](/source/Marshall_Goodman), Gaugh left Sublime and Goodman assumed sole drumming responsibilities. Gaugh was not the primary drummer on the ''40 oz. to Freedom'' record. When Gaugh rejoined, Sublime became a five-person collaboration between himself, Wilson, Nowell, Goodman, and [Michael Happoldt](/source/Michael_Happoldt).<ref>{{cite web |last1=Patti |first1=Mike |title=Interview: Marshall 'RAS MG' Goodman (Pt. 1 of 2) |url=https://thepier.org/interview-marshall-ras-mg-goodman-pt-1-of-2/ |website=The Pier Magazine |access-date=16 November 2024 |date=25 March 2014}}</ref> In 1996, Sublime disbanded due to the death of lead singer Bradley Nowell from a heroin overdose.<ref name=guz/>

===1996–2009: Post-Sublime bands===
Gaugh was a founding member of the [Long Beach Dub Allstars](/source/Long_Beach_Dub_Allstars) in 1997. Their first album, released in 1999, was called ''[Right Back](/source/Right_Back_(album))''. They followed it with ''[Wonders of the World](/source/Wonders_of_the_World_(album))'' in 2002. Long Beach Dub Allstars broke up in 2002, and Gaugh did not rejoin when the band reunited in 2012.<ref name=guz>{{cite news |last1=Guzman |first1=Richard |title=The Long Beach Dub Allstars talk new music, local politics and more |url=https://www.presstelegram.com/2020/05/20/the-long-beach-dub-allstars-talk-new-music-local-politics-and-more/ |access-date=16 November 2024 |work=Press Telegram |date=20 May 2020}}</ref> Gaugh stated in an interview that he didn't "harbor any grudges towards any musicians in the band. It was more of outside influences that was a problem there."<ref>{{cite web |title=Bud Gaugh — Artist Interview |url=http://thepier.org/view-artist.php?artist=32 |website=The Pier |access-date=17 November 2024 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100613063237/http://thepier.org/view-artist.php?artist=32|archive-date=13 June 2010}}</ref>

Gaugh played drums in [Eyes Adrift](/source/Eyes_Adrift) with [Krist Novoselic](/source/Krist_Novoselic) and [Curt Kirkwood](/source/Curt_Kirkwood). After Eyes Adrift disbanded, he went on to form [Volcano](/source/Volcano_(supergroup)) with Kirkwood.<ref>{{cite news |last1=Golsen |first1=Tyler |title=10 forgotten modern supergroups |url=https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/10-forgotten-modern-supergroups/ |access-date=16 November 2024 |work=Far Out Magazine |date=8 October 2023}}</ref> Volcano released one [self-titled album](/source/Volcano_(Volcano_album)) in 2004.

Gaugh formed the [surf rock](/source/surf_rock) band Del Mar in 2006 with his wife Nicole Gaugh on guitar, alongside guitarist Matt Bode and bassist Mike Martinez. They released one album, ''After the Quake'' (2009).<ref>{{cite news |last1=Thomas |first1=Dan |title=Sea of change: New band Del Mar makes Tahoe debut |url=https://www.tahoedailytribune.com/news/sea-of-change-new-band-del-mar-makes-tahoe-debut/ |access-date=17 November 2024 |work=Tahoe Daily Tribune |date=21 April 2008}}</ref>

It was announced in early 2009 that Gaugh would be reuniting with [Sublime](/source/Sublime_(band)) at Cantina Los Tres Hombres in
[Sparks, Nevada](/source/Sparks%2C_Nevada), on February 28, with new frontman and guitarist [Rome Ramirez](/source/Rome_Ramirez) in the place of [Bradley Nowell](/source/Bradley_Nowell).<ref>[http://www.punkbands.com/news/15893/ Sublime Reunion?] {{webarchive|url=https://archive.today/20090504055438/http://www.punkbands.com/news/15893/ |date=May 4, 2009 }}. Last accessed September 22, 2009.</ref> Following positive response, the band decided to reunite properly in August 2009 for a possible tour and new album.<ref>[http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/267549/sublime-to-reunite-for-cypress-hills-smokeout-fest Sublime To Reunite For Cypress Hill's Smokeout Fest]. A debut album, ''[Yours Truly](/source/Yours_Truly_(Sublime_with_Rome_album))'', was released on July 12, 2011.<ref>{{cite web |last1=Kreps |first1=Daniel |title=Drummer Bud Gaugh Ditches Sublime With Rome |url=https://www.spin.com/2011/12/drummer-bud-gaugh-ditches-sublime-rome/ |access-date=16 November 2024 |date=12 December 2011}}</ref>

Gaugh left Sublime with Rome on December 10, 2011 and was replaced by [Josh Freese](/source/Josh_Freese). On January 12, 2012, in an interview posted on budztv.com, Gaugh expressed regrets about touring and recording with Sublime with Rome, stating, "In hindsight I would not have used the name. I didn't want to in the first place, I was talked into it and I would like to apologize to certain people and the fans for trying to justify or talk them into it as well."<ref name="budztv interview">{{cite web |title=Bud Gaugh Exclusive Interview by Erik Schaefer of SWRfans.com |url=http://www.budztv.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=2&Itemid=2 |url-status=usurped |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160316030428/http://www.budztv.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=2&Itemid=2 |archive-date=March 16, 2016 |access-date=January 12, 2012 |publisher=budztv.com}}</ref> When asked how it felt to play Sublime songs again, Gaugh said, "It was really good for the first few months; after that, it just felt wrong. Not playing the songs but playing them with the name Sublime, without Brad."<ref name="budztv interview"/> When asked if he saw the band reuniting in the future, Gaugh replied, "No, I am done with SWR. I would be into playing music with Eric Wilson, however."<ref name="budztv interview" />

===2011–present: Later work and reformation of Sublime===
Gaugh joined Jelly of the Month Club, and featured on their debut album ''Introducing, Jelly of the Month Club'' (2013).<ref>{{cite news |last1=Bennett |first1=Sarah |title=Featuring Members of Sublime and The Ziggens, Jelly of the Month Club are The Bad Boys of Kiddie Rock |url=https://lbpost.com/hi-lo/music/featuring-members-of-sublime-and-the-ziggens-jelly-of-the-month-club-are-the-bad-boys-of-kiddie-rock/ |access-date=17 November 2024 |work=the Hi-lo |date=8 October 2013}}</ref> He later joined The Yamarone Brothers, described as a "[Bigfoot](/source/Bigfoot) rock band", and performed with the trio Phil and the Blanx.<ref>{{cite news |last1=Doran |first1=Bob |title=Squatchtastic |url=https://www.northcoastjournal.com/music/squatchtastic-2185599 |access-date=17 November 2024 |work=North Coast Journal |language=en}}</ref>
