'''''Brychionoe''''' is a genus of marine [annelids](/source/annelids) in the family [Polynoidae](/source/Polynoidae) (scale worms). The genus includes a single species, '''''Brychionoe karenae''''', which is long-bodied and occurs in the [Tasman Sea](/source/Tasman_Sea) at depths of 1100–1300 m.<ref name="HandB">Hanley, J. Russell and Burke, Melanie 1991. A new genus and species of scaleworm (Polycheta: Polynoidae) from the Cascade Plateau, Tasman Sea. ==Description==
Body with 65 to 90 or more segments and 47 to 87 pairs of [elytra](/source/Elytron_(Annelida)); on the posterior-most region, the elytra occur on every segments (rather than on alternating segments, as in most Polynoidae). The tips of the [notopodia](/source/Parapodium) and [neuropodia](/source/Parapodium), and the ventral [cirri](/source/Cirrus_(biology)), all have numerous papillae. Some [neurochaetae](/source/Chaeta) have forked tips (with 2 terminal teeth of similar size).<ref name="HandB" />

Although ''Brychionoe'' currently contains a single described species, an additional record of an unidentified species in this genus was reported from the [Indian Ocean](/source/Indian_Ocean) by Serpetti ''et al''. (2017).<ref>Serpetti N, Taylor ML, Brennan D, Green DH, Rogers AD, Paterson GLJ, Narayanaswamy BE (2017) Ecological adaptations and commensal evolution of the Polynoidae (Polychaeta) in the Southwest Indian Ocean Ridge: A phylogenetic approach. ==Biology and ecology==
''Brychionoe karenae'' has a [commensal](/source/commensal) relationship with the [antipatharian coral](/source/Black_coral), ''[Leiopathes sp.](/source/Leiopathes_sp.)''.
