The genus was first described in 2009 by Gary Poore and Melissa Storey,<ref name=afd/><ref name=poore>{{cite Q|Q21191967|pages=151 |doi-access=free}}</ref> and the genus name honours Niel L. Bruce.<ref name="poore" />
