He was a part of the Australian team that won their first world title during the [1987 Cricket World Cup](/source/1987_Cricket_World_Cup), and is the first Australian to take a [hat-trick](/source/Hat-trick_(cricket)) in the [ODI](/source/One_Day_International) format of the game.

Reid played for [Western Australia](/source/Western_Australia_cricket_team) in the [Sheffield Shield](/source/Sheffield_Shield) from 1984–85 to 1995–96.

Reid represented [Australia](/source/Australian_cricket_team) in [Test cricket](/source/Test_cricket) between December 1985 and December 1992 and in [One Day International](/source/One_Day_International)s between January 1986 and March 1992. He played 27 Test matches for Australia taking 113 Test [wicket](/source/wicket)s at an average of 24.63 runs per wicket. He also played 61 ODIs, taking 63 wickets.

Reid bowled left-arm fast-medium and had natural swing and an awkward angle of delivery. He achieved steepling bounce from his great height and was very accurate. Reid made his debut against India in January 1986. He was a mainstay of the Australian bowling attack from that time on. However, during [Australia's tour of Pakistan in 1988](/source/Australian_cricket_team_in_Pakistan_in_1988%E2%80%9389) he suffered a back injury. Thereafter, Reid was frequently injured and was rarely fully fit, which limited his international career. Reid was born in [Osborne Park](/source/Osborne_Park%2C_Western_Australia), a suburb of [Perth](/source/Perth), Western Australia. He was a cousin of [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand_cricket_team) batsman [John Reid](/source/John_Fulton_Reid). At {{convert|203|cm|ftin|abbr=on}} tall, Reid is same height as former [West Indian](/source/West_Indies_cricket_team) fast bowler [Joel Garner](/source/Joel_Garner).
