== Biography ==
Lenman was born in [Aberdeen](/source/Aberdeen) in April 1938 to Jacob and May Lenman (nee Wishart). He studied at [Aberdeen Grammar School](/source/Aberdeen_Grammar_School) before attending the [University of Aberdeen](/source/University_of_Aberdeen) and later [St John’s College Cambridge](/source/St_John's_College%2C_Cambridge) as a post graduate.<ref name="auto">{{Cite book |url=https://archive.org/details/whoswhoinscotlan0000unse_s1c5/mode/2up |title=Who's who in Scotland, 1997 |date=1997 |publisher=Irvine [Scotland] : Carrick Media |others=Internet Archive |isbn=978-0-946724-36-9}}</ref>
