# Brookong State Forest > Mediated Wiki article. The 346-hectare (850-acre)[2] state forest is located approximately 4 km (2.5 mi) south-west of [Lockhart](/source/Lockhart,_New_South_Wales).[5] ## Environment ### Flora 112 plant species have been recorded within the state forest, of which 78 were native, and 34 were introduced.[6] The state forest is dominated by [white cypress pine](/source/Callitris_glaucophylla).[3] Other large tree species present within the forest include [grey box](/source/Eucalyptus_microcarpa), [yellow box](/source/Eucalyptus_melliodora), [Blakely's red gum](/source/Eucalyptus_blakelyi), [bulloak](/source/Allocasuarina_luehmannii), [kurrajong](/source/Brachychiton_populneus) and [Weeping myall](/source/Acacia_pendula).[4] Native plant species recorded within the state forest include [rock fern](/source/Cheilanthes_sieberi), [small vanilla lily](/source/Arthropodium_minus),[bulbine lily](/source/Bulbine_bulbosa), [early nancy](/source/Wurmbea_dioica), [dusky fingers](/source/Caladenia_fuscata), [purple burr-daisy](/source/Calotis_cuneifolia), [creeping saltbush](/source/Atriplex_semibaccata), [climbing saltbush](/source/Chenopodium_nutans),[showy parrot-pea](/source/Dillwynia_sericea), [green wattle](/source/Acacia_deanei), [mallee wattle](/source/Acacia_montana), [golden wattle](/source/Acacia_pycnantha), [wedge-leaf hop-bush](/source/Dodonaea_viscosa) and [creamy candles](/source/Stackhousia_monogyna).[1] ### Fauna At least six bird species listed under the [*Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016*](/source/Biodiversity_Conservation_Act_2016_(NSW)) have been recorded within the state forest,[3] including [diamond firetail](/source/Diamond_firetail), [grey-crowned babbler](/source/Grey-crowned_babbler), [little eagle](/source/Little_eagle) and [scarlet robin](/source/Scarlet_robin).[3] Other birds found in the reserve include [red-rumped parrot](/source/Red-rumped_parrot), [red-capped robin](/source/Red-capped_robin), and [Australian raven](/source/Australian_raven).[7] ## See also - [State Forests of New South Wales](/source/State_Forests_of_New_South_Wales) ## References 1.
