The **Bridges Act 1702**[a] ([1 Ann.](/source/1_Ann.) c. 12)[c] was an [act](/source/Act_of_Parliament_(UK)) of the [Parliament of England](/source/Parliament_of_England).

## Subsequent developments

Section 5 of the act was repealed by section 20(3) of, and the fourth schedule to, the [Administration of Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1938](/source/Administration_of_Justice_(Miscellaneous_Provisions)_Act_1938) ([1 & 2 Geo. 6](/source/1_%26_2_Geo._6). c. 63), which came into force on 1 January 1939.[1]

Section 2 ceased to have effect by virtue of section 311 of, and schedule 23 to, the [Highways Act 1959](/source/Highways_Act_1959) ([7 & 8 Eliz. 2](/source/7_%26_8_Eliz._2). c. 25).

The whole act was repealed by section 312(2) of, and schedule 25 to, the [Highways Act 1959](/source/Highways_Act_1959) ([7 & 8 Eliz. 2](/source/7_%26_8_Eliz._2). c. 25), subject to section 42(1) of that act.

The repeal effected by section 312(2) of the [Highways Act 1959](/source/Highways_Act_1959) ([7 & 8 Eliz. 2](/source/7_%26_8_Eliz._2). c. 25) was extended to the whole of [Greater London](/source/Greater_London) by section 16(2) of, and paragraph 70 of schedule 6 to, the [London Government Act 1963](/source/London_Government_Act_1963).
