== Life ==
Bourke was born in Dublin in 1936. In 1965 Bourke won an [Arts Council](/source/Arts_Council_(Ireland)) prize for portraiture and represented Ireland at the [Biennale de Paris](/source/Biennale_de_Paris). In 1991, he was artist-in-residence at the [Gate Theatre](/source/Gate_Theatre)'s Beckett Festival in Dublin, with accompanying works appearing at the [Douglas Hyde Gallery](/source/Douglas_Hyde_Gallery).<ref name=":3" />
