**Brett Clark Connon** (born 29 August 1996)[1] is a [rugby union](/source/Rugby_union) player for [Newcastle Red Bulls](/source/Newcastle_Red_Bulls) in [Premiership Rugby](/source/Premiership_Rugby). His primary position is [fly-half](/source/Fly-half); he has also featured at [fullback](/source/Fullback_(rugby_union)).[2]. In January 2026 Newcastle announced that Connon had signed a new contract with the club, taking him to the end of the 2027/28 season.[3]

Born in [Carlisle](/source/Carlisle), England, he qualifies for [Ireland](/source/Ireland_national_rugby_union_team) through his father and has represented [Ireland under 20s](/source/Ireland_national_under-20_rugby_union_team).[4]

## Career

Connon started playing rugby around 6 years old for his local club Carlisle and also played for his school [Austin Friars](/source/Austin_Friars).[5] He joined [Newcastle Falcons](/source/Newcastle_Falcons) academy at 15 and was identified by the [IRFU](/source/Irish_Rugby_Football_Union)'s exiles programme and played for Ireland's under 18 team.[4] He made his debut for Newcastle's first team on 14 October 2016 against the [Ospreys](/source/Ospreys_(rugby_union)) in a [European Rugby Challenge Cup](/source/European_Rugby_Challenge_Cup) match.[5] On 10 March 2019, with the final kick of the match, Connon scored the winning penalty for Newcastle against [Wasps](/source/Wasps_RFC).[6]

In November 2024, he kicked seven points against [Saracens](/source/Saracens_F.C.), helping Newcastle achieve their first win over the north London club since 2009.[7]
