**Brandenberg** is a [municipality](/source/Municipality) in the [Austrian](/source/Austria) state of [Tyrol](/source/Tyrol_(state)) in the district [Kufstein](/source/Kufstein_(district)). It consists of the *Brandenberg* village and the *Aschau* locality (German: *Ortsteil*).

Brandenberg was first mentioned in 1140, and became an independent municipality in the beginning of the 19th century. The municipality is located in the valley of the [Brandenberger Ache](/source/Brandenberger_Ache) river, a tributary of the [Inn River](/source/Inn_River). To the north, it shares a border with [Germany](/source/Germany). Neighbouring Austrian and German municipalities are [Achenkirch](/source/Achenkirch), [Breitenbach am Inn](/source/Breitenbach_am_Inn), [Kramsach](/source/Kramsach), [Kreuth](/source/Kreuth), [Rottach-Egern](/source/Rottach-Egern), [Steinberg am Rofan](/source/Steinberg_am_Rofan), and [Thiersee](/source/Thiersee).

A local specialty is the *[Prügeltorte](/source/Baumkuchen)* cake.
