**Brainpool TV GmbH** is a German television [production company](/source/Production_company) located in [Cologne](/source/Cologne).

## History

It was a subsidiary of [VIVA](/source/Viva_(TV_station)) Medien AG between 2001 and 2006, until a [management buyout](/source/Management_buyout) in January 2007, now owned by [Banijay](/source/Banijay).[2] The film *[Stromberg – The Movie](/source/Stromberg_%E2%80%93_The_Movie)* was [crowdfunded](/source/Crowdfunding) with €1,000,000 in one week by 3,000 fans in December 2011.[3] In June 2015, Brainpool announced a layoff of 80 employees at the end of 2015, due to Stefan Raab's announced retirement from the television industry.[4] However, the Cologne Labor Court deemed some layoffs to be unjustified and thus invalid.[5]

At the beginning of 2019 it was announced that Banijay Germany CEO and shareholder Marcus Wolter had been appointed as the new managing director.[6] In June 2020, Banijay took over the rest of the shares.[7]
