## History

The constituency was created in 1984 from a Comilla constituency when the former Comilla District was split into three districts: [Brahmanbaria](/source/Brahmanbaria_District), [Comilla](/source/Comilla_District), and [Chandpur](/source/Chandpur_District).

Ahead of the [2008 general election](/source/2008_Bangladeshi_general_election), the [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the [2001 Bangladesh census](/source/2001_Bangladesh_census).[3] The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency.[4]

Ahead of the [2018 general election](/source/2018_Bangladeshi_general_election), the Election Commission expanded the boundaries of the constituency by adding two [union parishads](/source/Union_parishad) of Nabinagar Upazila: Barikandi and Salimganj.[2][5][6]
