***Bragginsella*** is a [monotypic](/source/Monotypic) genus of [liverworts](/source/Liverwort) belonging to the family [Lophocoleaceae](/source/Lophocoleaceae).[1] The sole species of this genus, ***Bragginsella anomala*** R.M.Schust. is found in New Zealand.[1]

## Etymology

The genus name of *Bragginsella* is in honour of [John Edward Braggins](/source/John_Edward_Braggins) (b.1944) a New Zealand born botanist (Pteridology, Mycology, Lichenology), from the [University of Auckland](/source/University_of_Auckland) and the Auckland Museum for Natural Sciences.[2] The species epithet *anomala* was chosen to describe its anomalous appearance.[3]

## Description

*Bragginsella anomala* is a light green liverwort, which has highly dome-shaped papillae on the cuticle of its calls.[4]

## Distribution and habitat

*Bragginsella anomala* is endemic to [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand). The holotype was discovered at [Temple Basin](/source/Temple_Basin) in [Arthur's Pass National Park](/source/Arthur's_Pass_National_Park), occurring in wet cliff crevices.[4]
