**Boyd Gordon** (born October 19, 1983) is a Canadian former professional [ice hockey](/source/Ice_hockey) [centre](/source/Centre_(ice_hockey)) and pro scout for the [Detroit Red Wings](/source/Detroit_Red_Wings), who played 13 seasons in the [National Hockey League](/source/National_Hockey_League) (NHL) for the [Washington Capitals](/source/Washington_Capitals), [Arizona Coyotes](/source/Arizona_Coyotes), [Edmonton Oilers](/source/Edmonton_Oilers), and [Philadelphia Flyers](/source/Philadelphia_Flyers).

## Playing career

Gordon was drafted in the 1st round, 17th overall by the Washington Capitals in the [2002 NHL entry draft](/source/2002_NHL_entry_draft). Gordon was drafted from the [Red Deer Rebels](/source/Red_Deer_Rebels) of the [Western Hockey League](/source/Western_Hockey_League) where he helped the Red Deer Rebels win the [Memorial Cup](/source/Memorial_Cup) in the [2000–01](/source/2000%E2%80%9301_WHL_season) season. Gordon played his first professional season in [2003–04](/source/2003%E2%80%9304_NHL_season). He played with Capitals affiliate, the [Portland Pirates](/source/Portland_Pirates), of the [AHL](/source/American_Hockey_League) and also made his NHL debut with the Capitals appearing in 41 games.

In the [2005–06](/source/2005%E2%80%9306_AHL_season) season, Gordon won the [Calder Cup](/source/Calder_Cup) with the [Hershey Bears](/source/Hershey_Bears) before earning a regular roster spot with the Capitals in the [2006–07](/source/2006%E2%80%9307_NHL_season) season.

He signed a two-year contract with the [Phoenix Coyotes](/source/Phoenix_Coyotes) on July 1, 2011.[1]

On July 5, 2013, he signed a three-year contract as a free agent with the [Edmonton Oilers](/source/Edmonton_Oilers).[2]

Approaching the final year of his contract with the Oilers, Gordon was traded in a return to the Coyotes organization in exchange for [Lauri Korpikoski](/source/Lauri_Korpikoski) on June 30, 2015.[3]

On July 1, 2016, Gordon signed a one-year contract worth $950,000 with the [Philadelphia Flyers](/source/Philadelphia_Flyers).[4]

Gordon is currently a pro scout for the [Detroit Red Wings](/source/Detroit_Red_Wings).[5]
