'''Bowdun Head''' is a [headland](/source/headland) [landform](/source/landform) on the [North Sea](/source/North_Sea) [coast](/source/coast) approximately one kilometre south of [Stonehaven](/source/Stonehaven), [Scotland](/source/Scotland).(Ordnance Survey, 2004)  Slightly to the north is another headland, [Downie Point](/source/Downie_Point).  Somewhat to the south along the coast is [Dunnottar Castle](/source/Dunnottar_Castle) on the far side of the bay of Castle Haven. Other historic structures in the general vicinity include the [Stonehaven Tolbooth](/source/Stonehaven_Tolbooth), [Fetteresso Castle](/source/Fetteresso_Castle), the [Chapel of St. Mary and St. Nathalan](/source/Chapel_of_St._Mary_and_St._Nathalan) and [Muchalls Castle](/source/Muchalls_Castle). There is considerable prehistory associated with the local area including a [Pictish](/source/Picts) hill fort on the [sea stack](/source/sea_stack) of [Dunnicaer](/source/Dunnicaer) immediately to the north, and [Bronze Age](/source/Bronze_Age) [archaeological](/source/archaeological) sites at [Fetteresso](/source/Fetteresso_Castle) (Hogan, 2008) and [Spurryhillock](/source/Spurryhillock), both somewhat inland of Bowdun Head.
