# Borisovsky District

**Borisovsky District** (Russian: Бори́совский райо́н) is an administrative district ([raion](/source/Raion)), one of the [twenty-one](/source/Administrative_divisions_of_Belgorod_Oblast) in [Belgorod Oblast](/source/Belgorod_Oblast), [Russia](/source/Russia).[1] As a [municipal division](/source/Subdivisions_of_Russia#Municipal_divisions), it is incorporated as **Borisovsky Municipal District**.[2] It is located in the west of the [oblast](/source/Oblast). The area of the district is 650.3 square kilometers (251.1 sq mi).[3] Its [administrative center](/source/Administrative_center) is the [urban locality](/source/Types_of_inhabited_localities_in_Russia) (a [settlement](/source/Urban-type_settlement)) of [Borisovka](/source/Borisovka,_Borisovsky_District,_Belgorod_Oblast).[4] Population: 26,282 ([2002 Census](/source/Russian_Census_(2002)));[5] The population of Borisovka accounts for 52.5% of the district's total population.[6]

## Geography

Borisovsky District is in the southwest of Belgorod Oblast, on the border with [Ukraine](/source/Ukraine). It is bordered on the south by [Bohodukhiv Raion](/source/Bohodukhiv_Raion), [Kharkiv Oblast](/source/Kharkiv_Oblast) of [Ukraine](/source/Ukraine), on the west by [Grayvoronsky District](/source/Grayvoronsky_District), on the north by [Rakityansky District](/source/Rakityansky_District), and on the east by [Yakovlevsky District](/source/Yakovlevsky_District) and [Belgorodsky District](/source/Belgorodsky_District). The administrative center of the district is the town of [Borisovka, Belgorod Oblast](/source/Borisovka,_Belgorod_Oblast).[7] The district is 25 kilometres (16 mi) west of the city of [Belgorod](/source/Belgorod), and is 45 kilometres (28 mi) north of the Ukrainian city of [Kharkiv](/source/Kharkiv).

The terrain is hilly plain averaging 200 metres (660 ft) above sea level; the district lies on the Orel-Kursk plateau of the [Central Russian Upland](/source/Central_Russian_Upland). The major river through the district is the [Vorskla River](/source/Vorskla_River), which flows east to west through the district, with grey soils to the north of the river and black earth soils to the south of the river. The forest of the Vorskla River is partially protected by [Belogorye Nature Reserve](/source/Belogorye_Nature_Reserve).
