**Boris Vasilyevich Kravtsov** ([Russian](/source/Russian_language): Борис Васильевич Кравцов; born 28 December 1922) is a Russian former jurist and politician who served as the [justice minister](/source/Ministry_of_Justice_(Soviet_Union)) of the [Soviet Union](/source/Soviet_Union) between 1984 and 1989.

## Biography

Kravtsov was born in Moscow on 28 December 1922.[1] In 1941 he graduated from high school and joined the [Red Army](/source/Red_Army).[2] He was part of the Soviet military forces which liberated Ukraine from the [Nazi invasion](/source/Operation_Barbarossa).[3] In September 1945 Kravtsov began his studies at the Moscow Law School and graduated in 1947.[1] Following his graduation he worked as a judge in different regions.[1] He also graduated from the All Union Correspondence Law Institute in 1952.[1] He was named the deputy prosecutor of the [Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic](/source/Russian_Soviet_Federative_Socialist_Republic) (RSFSR) in 1960 and in 1971 he became the prosecutor of the RSFSR.[1] On 12 April 1984 he was appointed minister of justice of the Soviet Union replacing Vladimir Terebilov in the post.[4] Kravtsov was in office until 7 June 1989.[1]

Kravtsov was a member of the [Communist Party](/source/Communist_Party_of_the_Soviet_Union) between 1943 and 1991.[1] He served as a deputy at the [Supreme Soviet](/source/Supreme_Soviet) in the 11th convocation from 1984 to 1989.[2] He retired from public office in 1989.[1]

## Personal life

Kravtsov married Tatyana Ivanovna Kravtsova.[2] He has two daughters.[2]

### Awards

For his activities in World War II Kravtsov was given the Gold Star of the [Hero of the Soviet Union](/source/Hero_of_the_Soviet_Union) in May 1944.[1] In February 2022, he was awarded the highest degree of the [Order "For Merit to the Fatherland"](/source/Order_%22For_Merit_to_the_Fatherland%22).[3] As of 2024, he is the last living [Hero of the Soviet Union](/source/Hero_of_the_Soviet_Union) who received his award during the [Great Patriotic War](/source/Great_Patriotic_War).
