He won the fourth prize of the 1935 [Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition](/source/Henryk_Wieniawski_Violin_Competition) in [Warsaw](/source/Warsaw); [Ginette Neveu](/source/Ginette_Neveu) from [France](/source/France) came first, [David Oistrakh](/source/David_Oistrakh) second, and [Josef Hassid](/source/Josef_Hassid) from [Poland](/source/Poland) received an honorary diploma.
In 1937, at one of the most prestigious international competitions of its time, the [Eugène Ysaÿe Competition](/source/Eug%C3%A8ne_Ysa%C3%BFe_Competition), [Stolyarsky](/source/Pyotr_Stolyarsky) students caused a sensation. Top prizes were won by [David Oistrakh](/source/David_Oistrakh), Boris Goldstein, [Yelizaveta Gilels](/source/Elizabeth_Gilels) and [Mikhail Fikhtengoltz](/source/Mikhail_Fikhtengoltz).

Later he was forced to emigrate from [Russia](/source/Russia) to [Germany](/source/Germany), he taught but his solo career never recovered.
The composer, violinist, and professor for violin [Mikhail Goldstein](/source/Mikhail_Goldstein) was his brother. Notable students of Boris Goldstein include [Zakhar Bron](/source/Zakhar_Bron) and {{ill|Alexander Skwortsow|nl|Alexander Skwortsow}}.
