Savage graduated with a [Master of Fine Arts](/source/Master_of_Fine_Arts) from [York University](/source/York_University) in 1992.

Savage is perhaps best known for his role as [Team Canada](/source/Canada_men's_national_ice_hockey_team) head coach [Harry Sinden](/source/Harry_Sinden) in the 2006 [CBC](/source/CBC_Television) miniseries, ''[Canada Russia '72](/source/Canada_Russia_'72)''.

Savage is a playwright and avid stage actor.  His self-written plays ''Savage Heat'', ''DADS'', ''Reversing Falls'', ''Pillow Talk'', ''Pajama Games'' and ''This Bloody Business'' have been performed on stages across Canada.  Moreover, he is an original actor member of [Toronto](/source/Toronto)'s [Theatre Passe Muraille](/source/Theatre_Passe_Muraille) and Toronto Free Theatre.
