A '''bootee''' (also '''bootie''' or '''booty''')<ref>{{cite web| url=http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/bootee?view=uk | archive-url=https://archive.today/20120717231318/http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/bootee?view=uk | url-status=dead | archive-date=July 17, 2012 | title=AskOxford | accessdate = 2009-04-04}}</ref> is a short soft sock or bootlike [garment](/source/garment) used for warmth or protection. Bootees for babies are usually thick and knitted, to keep the baby's feet warm. [Dog booties](/source/Dog_booties) for dogs such as [sledge dog](/source/sledge_dog)s in very cold [Arctic](/source/Arctic) conditions (see [Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race](/source/Iditarod_Trail_Sled_Dog_Race)) protect the animal from the cold and sharp ice. Booties worn over the shoes in cold-weather biking similarly protect cyclists. <ref>[http://www.realcyclist.com/cycling-booties-and-shoe-covers Cycling booties and shoe covers]</ref>

[Disposable](/source/Disposable_product) socks, such as those worn for hygiene by surgical teams, are also called bootees.
