**Boknesstrand** (or **Boknes**) is a small [seaside town](/source/Seaside_town) in the [Eastern Cape](/source/Eastern_Cape) of South Africa. It is close to [Cannon Rocks](/source/Cannon_Rocks), [Kenton-on-Sea](/source/Kenton-on-Sea), [Alexandria](/source/Alexandria%2C_Eastern_Cape), [Bushman's River Mouth](/source/Bushman's_River_Mouth) and [Port Alfred](/source/Port_Alfred%2C_Eastern_Cape). It is part of the [Ndlambe Local Municipality](/source/Ndlambe_Local_Municipality) in the [Sarah Baartman District](/source/Sarah_Baartman_District_Municipality) of the Eastern Cape.

Village 19 km south-east of Alexandria, at the mouth of the Boknes River, from which it takes its name. Formerly called Jammerfontein. The name Boknes is derived from [Khoekhoen](/source/Khoekhoen) and means 'father's river'. The forms Bocna, Bokana etc. are also encountered.[2]
