The '''Bohus Line''' ({{langx|sv|Bohusbanan}}) is a {{convert|180|km|mi|adj=mid|sp=us|-long}} [railway](/source/railway) line from [Gothenburg](/source/Gothenburg) via [Uddevalla](/source/Uddevalla) and [Munkedal](/source/Munkedal) to [Strömstad](/source/Str%C3%B6mstad). == History ==
The '''Bohus Line''' was opened in stages between 1903 and 1907 and was originally supposed to continue northwards from [Skee](/source/Skee%2C_Sweden) and connect to [Østfold Line](/source/%C3%98stfold_Line) in Norway but when [Sweden-Norway](/source/Sweden-Norway) dissolved the project was cancelled. It serves an important purpose to the communities it goes through and is very busy with many passenger services especially between Gothenburg & Stenungsund/Uddevalla and some cargo services between [Gothenburg](/source/Gothenburg) and [Munkedal](/source/Munkedal). The Northern half between [Uddevalla](/source/Uddevalla) and [Strömstad](/source/Str%C3%B6mstad) is in pretty bad condition and only allows speeds up to 90 km/h (with the exception of [Skee](/source/Skee%2C_Sweden)-Strömstad which got partially rebuilt in 2009 along with the expansion of [Highway E6](/source/Highway_E6)). Gothenburg-Uddevalla was modernized in the 1990s.

== Future ==
Double tracks between Gothenburg and Stenungsund or Uddevalla has been highly requested from both [Västra Götaland County](/source/V%C3%A4stra_G%C3%B6taland_County) and the municipalities and communities which it passes through. Some have also wished for the Station in [Ytterby](/source/Ytterby) to be moved to the larger community of [Kungälv](/source/Kung%C3%A4lv). New Stations in [Jörlanda](/source/J%C3%B6rlanda) and [Säve](/source/S%C3%A4ve) have been requested by those communities.

The Bohus Line connects to the [Lysekil Line](/source/Lysekil_Line) in Munkedal and the [Älvsborg Line](/source/%C3%84lvsborg_Line) in Uddevalla and the [Western Main Line](/source/Western_Main_Line) among others in Gothenburg.
