==Biography==
He was the son of [Helig ap Glanawg](/source/Helig_ap_Glanawg) and died in the 7th century.<ref name=cath>[http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=1808 St Bodfan] from Catholic Online, retrieved 8 June 2013</ref> Supposedly, he saw his family's land inundated by the sea and became a religious.<ref name=cath/> Bodfan then became a monk on [Bardsey Island](/source/Bardsey_Island) and later established the first church at [Llanaber](/source/Llanaber). His brothers [Brothen](/source/St_Brothen's_Church%2C_Llanfrothen), [Celynin](/source/Celynnin) and [Rhichwyn](/source/Rhichwyn) are also regarded as saints and also have churches dedicated to them around [Gwynedd](/source/Gwynedd) and [Conwy](/source/Conwy).<ref name=mega>[http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=26779 Megalithic.co.uk] retrieved 8 June 2013</ref>

He is the patron saint of many churches in [Gwynedd](/source/Gwynedd) in north-west [Wales](/source/Wales), such as [St Mary and St Bodfan Church](/source/St_Mary_and_St_Bodfan_Church%2C_Llanaber) in Llanaber and St Bodfan church in [Abergwyngregyn](/source/Abergwyngregyn).<ref>[https://archive.today/20130620204928/http://www.abergwyngregyn.co.uk/html/body_st_bodfan.html Abergwyngregyn.co.uk] retrieved 8 June 2013</ref> Also, in Llanaber are the ''Llanaber Stones'', they are two very large rocks with 5th- and 6th-century Latin carvings, 1&nbsp;km from the local church, they are known in the area as ''St Bodfan's Stones''.<ref name=mega/>
