'''Charles Walter "Bobby" Messenger''' (March 19, 1884 – July 10, 1951) was an American professional [baseball](/source/baseball) player.

Messenger was born in [Bangor, Maine](/source/Bangor%2C_Maine) and was a 1908 graduate of [Bates College](/source/Bates_College) where he played for the Bates team. After graduation he was a professional [outfielder](/source/outfielder) for parts of four seasons (1909–11, 1914) with the [Chicago White Sox](/source/Chicago_White_Sox) and [St. Louis Browns](/source/St._Louis_Browns).  For his career, he compiled a .172 [batting average](/source/batting_average_(baseball)) in 157 [at-bat](/source/at-bat)s, with four [runs batted in](/source/run_batted_in).

After his baseball career, he coached baseball and [football](/source/high_school_football) at [Edward Little High School](/source/Edward_Little_High_School) in [Auburn, Maine](/source/Auburn%2C_Maine) and served for more than a decade as a deputy sheriff.
