'''Robert Geddes''' (born 12 August 1960) is a Scotland former [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [goalkeeper](/source/Goalkeeper_(association_football)), and is currently the goalkeeping coach for [Falkirk](/source/Falkirk_F.C.). A product of the [Highland Football League](/source/Highland_Football_League), Geddes was goalkeeping coach at first club [Dundee](/source/Dundee_F.C.) from 2006 until 2021, a position he previously held at city rivals [Dundee United](/source/Dundee_United_F.C.).

==Playing career==
[Inverness](/source/Inverness)-born Geddes began his professional career with [Ross County](/source/Ross_County_F.C.), then a [Highland League](/source/Highland_Football_League) club. In 1977 Geddes transferred from Ross County to [Dundee](/source/Dundee_F.C.), and was part of the side who finished runners-up in the [First Division](/source/Scottish_First_Division) and [League Cup](/source/Scottish_League_Cup) that season. In 1990 after ten years at [Dens Park](/source/Dens_Park), Geddes moved west to [Kilmarnock](/source/Kilmarnock_F.C.) where in 1993 he was part of the promotion-winning side. A short spell with [Raith Rovers](/source/Raith_Rovers_F.C.) followed in the mid-90s before spending two years in Northern Ireland with [Linfield](/source/Linfield_F.C.) where he won the [Irish League Cup](/source/Irish_League_Cup) in successive seasons. At the end of the decade, Geddes returned to Scotland with [Brechin City](/source/Brechin_City_F.C.), marking his twentieth and final season in professional football.

==Coaching career==
Geddes moved into management with junior side [Carnoustie Panmure](/source/Carnoustie_Panmure_F.C.), adopting a player/manager role which brought the club the [Scottish Junior Cup](/source/Scottish_Junior_Cup) in [2003–04](/source/2003%E2%80%9304_in_Scottish_football). In April 2005, Geddes moved into a goalkeeping coaching role with [Dundee United](/source/Dundee_United_F.C.),<ref>{{cite news|url=http://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/output/2005/04/04/story6981151t0.shtm|title=Fans outnumbered|date=5 April 2005|work=Evening Telegraph|access-date=2008-04-28|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20050407123417/http://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/output/2005/04/04/story6981151t0.shtm|archivedate=7 April 2005}}</ref> where he stayed before returning to Dundee in the same role. In April 2008, injuries forced 47-year-old Geddes to appear as the substitute goalkeeper in a match against [Hamilton Academical](/source/Hamilton_Academical_F.C.). Coincidentally, the [New Douglas Park](/source/New_Douglas_Park) club were also forced to name their goalkeeping coach [Brian Potter](/source/Brian_Potter_(footballer)) as their substitute goalkeeper. Potter was a used substitute in the 1–1 draw, whilst Geddes, listed as a trialist, was an unused substitute.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/scot_div_1/7364827.stm|title= Dundee 1-1 Hamilton Accies|date=26 April 2008|publisher=BBC Sport|access-date=2008-04-28}}</ref>

Geddes again had to be re-registered in August 2009, to appear as a substitute goalkeeper for Dundee in their Co-operative Insurance Cup match against [Forfar Athletic](/source/Forfar_Athletic_F.C.) on 25 August 2009.<ref>{{Cite web |url=http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=280917&cc=5739 |title=Report: Forfar Athletic v Dundee - Scottish Communities League Cup - ESPN Soccernet |access-date=21 April 2010 |archive-date=22 June 2011 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110622085418/http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=280917&cc=5739 |url-status=dead }}</ref>

On 21 April 2010, Geddes appeared as a substitute goalkeeper for Dundee against Raith Rovers, after [Tony Bullock](/source/Tony_Bullock) went off with a hamstring injury after 27 minutes, which Dundee lost 1–0. Geddes became the oldest player to appear for Dundee in a league match, at 49 years old.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/d/dundee/8638423.stm|title=Veteran keeper Bobby Geddes, 49, shocked at return|date=22 April 2010|publisher=[BBC](/source/BBC)|access-date=2010-04-22}}</ref> He left his coaching role with Dundee in July 2021, after fifteen years.<ref>{{cite news |title=Bobby Geddes leaves Dundee after 15 years as goalkeeping coach |url=https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/bobby-geddes-leaves-dundee-after-15-years-as-goalkeeping-coach-1625155379000 |access-date=1 July 2021 |work=FourFourTwo |date=1 July 2021}}</ref> Later that month, Geddes would be announced as the goalkeeping coach for [Scottish League One](/source/Scottish_League_One) side [Falkirk](/source/Falkirk_F.C.).<ref>{{Cite web|title=CLUB UPDATE: BACKROOM TEAM CHANGES|url=https://www.falkirkfc.co.uk/2021/07/16/club-update-backroom-team-changes/|access-date=2021-12-20|website=Falkirk Football Club|date=16 July 2021 |language=en-US}}</ref>
