## Career

Born in [Frederiksberg](/source/Frederiksberg), Chawla began playing cricket at age 9. He represented Denmark at the under-19 level,[1][2] Chawla made his full debut for [Denmark](/source/Denmark_national_cricket_team) in a [List A](/source/List_A_cricket) match against the [Durham Cricket Board](/source/Durham_Cricket_Board) in the English domestic one-day tournament, the [2000 NatWest Trophy](/source/2000_NatWest_Trophy).[3] In that same year, he played in the [European Championships](/source/European_Cricket_Championship#2000) in Scotland.[2] The following year, he played for Denmark in the [2001 ICC Trophy](/source/2001_ICC_Trophy) in Canada, making six appearances.[4] In August 2001, he played his second List A match, against [Suffolk](/source/Suffolk_County_Cricket_Club) in the 1st round of the [2002 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy](/source/2002_Cheltenham_%26_Gloucester_Trophy), which was played in 2001 to avoid fixture congestion. A further List A appearance came the following year in the 1st round of the [2003 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy](/source/2003_Cheltenham_%26_Gloucester_Trophy) against the [Leicestershire Cricket Board](/source/Leicestershire_Cricket_Board), played to the same arrangement as the previous season's fixture.[3] Two further appearances in that format followed, in the [2004 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy](/source/2004_Cheltenham_%26_Gloucester_Trophy) against [Wales Minor Counties](/source/Wales_Minor_Counties_Cricket_Club) and in the [2005 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy](/source/2005_Cheltenham_%26_Gloucester_Trophy) against [Northamptonshire](/source/Northamptonshire_County_Cricket_Club) at [Svanholm Park, Brøndby](/source/Svanholm_Park).[3] This was Denmark's last appearance in English domestic one-day cricket, with all their prior results having been mostly heavy defeats.

Also in 2005, Chawla appeared in his second and final [ICC Trophy](/source/2005_ICC_Trophy), which was held in Ireland. The [International Cricket Council](/source/International_Cricket_Council) afforded List A status to these matches, with Chawla making seven appearances during the tournament,[3] taking 9 wickets at an [average](/source/Bowling_average) of 23.22, with best figures of 3/42.[5] Later in 2007, Chawla was selected as part of Denmark's squad for the [World Cricket League Division Two](/source/2007_ICC_World_Cricket_League_Division_Two) in Namibia.[6] Chawla made a further four List A appearances during the tournament,[3] taking 10 wickets at an average of 15.20, with best figures of 4/38.[5] Two years later, he was selected as part of Denmark's squad for the [World Cup Qualifier](/source/2009_Cricket_World_Cup_Qualifier) in South Africa,[7] where he made seven List A appearances, including his final appearance to date in that format, against [Oman](/source/Oman_national_cricket_team).[3] He struggled with the ball during the tournament, taking just 2 wickets at an expensive average of 115.00.[5]

In 2011, Chawla was selected in Denmark's squad for the [2011 ICC World Cricket League Division Three](/source/2011_ICC_World_Cricket_League_Division_Three) tournament in Hong Kong,[8] making four appearances.[2] In March 2012, Denmark took part in the [World Twenty20 Qualifier](/source/2012_World_Twenty20_Qualifier) in the [United Arab Emirates](/source/United_Arab_Emirates), with Chawla selected in their fourteen-man squad.[9] Chawla made his [Twenty20](/source/Twenty20) debut during the tournament against [Bermuda](/source/Bermuda_national_cricket_team) at the [Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium](/source/Sharjah_Cricket_Stadium). He made six further appearances during the competition, the last of which came against [Oman](/source/Oman_national_cricket_team),[10] taking 6 wickets during the tournament, at an average of 20.33 and with best figures of 3/19.[11] In August 2012, he was selected in Denmark's fourteen-man squad for the [World Cricket League Division Four](/source/2012_ICC_World_Cricket_League_Division_Four) in Malaysia.[12]
