'''Bob Maize''' (January 15, 1945 – November 20, 2004) was an American [jazz](/source/jazz) [double bass](/source/double_bass)ist born and raised in Ontario California.

Maize played piano from age seven and switched to bass at 13. After moving to [San Francisco](/source/San_Francisco) in 1963, Maize worked in the [house band](/source/house_band)s of many jazz clubs in the city, including Soulville and [Bop City](/source/Bop_City). He played with [Sonny Stitt](/source/Sonny_Stitt), [Philly Joe Jones](/source/Philly_Joe_Jones), [Vince Guaraldi](/source/Vince_Guaraldi), [Mose Allison](/source/Mose_Allison), [Herb Ellis](/source/Herb_Ellis), [Monty Alexander](/source/Monty_Alexander), [Anita O'Day](/source/Anita_O'Day), [Emily Remler](/source/Emily_Remler), and [Jon Hendricks](/source/Jon_Hendricks); he also did a stint in a rock band as a [bass guitar](/source/bass_guitar)ist.

He moved to [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles) with his family in 1980, where he worked with Concord Jazz All Stars, [Scott Hamilton](/source/Scott_Hamilton_(musician)), [Dave McKenna](/source/Dave_McKenna), Rosemary Clooney, Mel Tormé and [Tal Farlow](/source/Tal_Farlow). Maize also worked with [Horace Silver](/source/Horace_Silver) in 1983–84, 1993 (''[It's Got to Be Funky](/source/It's_Got_to_Be_Funky)'') and 1995–96. He did a tour of [Japan](/source/Japan) and Europe with [Sarah Vaughan](/source/Sarah_Vaughan) in 1985. He continued to play as a sideman in West Coast clubs into the 2000s.
