# Bob Larkin

**Bob Larkin** (born July 10, 1949)[1] is an American [comics artist](/source/Comics_artist) primarily known for his painted covers for [Marvel Comics](/source/Marvel_Comics)' magazine-format titles, [Marvel Magazines](/source/List_of_comics_magazines_published_by_Magazine_Management_in_the_1970s), in the 1970s and early 1980s and for his 32 painted covers on the [Bantam Books](/source/Bantam_Books) paperback reissues series of the [Doc Savage](/source/Doc_Savage) pulp novels.

## Biography

Larkin began his career as an illustrator in 1969.[2] His many credits include titles such as *[Crazy Magazine](/source/Crazy_Magazine)*, *[Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu](/source/Deadly_Hands_of_Kung-Fu)*, *[Marvel Preview](/source/Marvel_Preview)*, *[Marvel Super Special](/source/Marvel_Comics_Super_Special)*, *[Planet of the Apes](/source/Planet_of_the_Apes_(comics))*, *[Savage Sword of Conan](/source/Savage_Sword_of_Conan)*, and *[The Tomb of Dracula](/source/The_Tomb_of_Dracula)*. Larkin painted covers for many of the [Marvel Fireside Books](/source/Marvel_Fireside_Books) paperback collections, lending them a simple, [movie-poster](/source/Film_poster) feel. He did the same thing for the cover to the second major [intercompany crossover](/source/Intercompany_crossover), *[Superman and Spider-Man](/source/Superman_and_Spider-Man)* (1981). In addition, Marvel occasionally tapped Larkin to paint covers for premiere issues of such comic book titles as *[Dazzler](/source/Dazzler_(Marvel_Comics))* (March 1981) and *[The Saga of Crystar](/source/The_Saga_of_Crystar)* (May 1983).[3] A rare example of Larkin providing interior art is the three–page story "For the Next 60 Seconds" in *[Epic Illustrated](/source/Epic_Illustrated)* #1 (Spring 1980).[4]

Besides his work for Marvel, Larkin has painted covers for *[Vampirella](/source/Vampirella)* and *[The Rook](/source/The_Rook_(comics))* ([Warren Publishing](/source/Warren_Publishing)), *The Amazing Adventures of [Holo-Man](/source/Holo-Man)* ([Peter Pan Records](/source/Peter_Pan_Records)),[5] *Lorelei: Building the Perfect Beast* (StarWarp Concepts), and many others.[3]

Larkin provided covers to [Bantam Books](/source/Bantam_Books) reprints of [Doc Savage](/source/Doc_Savage), as well as [World Wrestling Entertainment](/source/World_Wrestling_Entertainment) merchandise featuring [The Rock](/source/Dwayne_Johnson), [Stone Cold Steve Austin](/source/Stone_Cold_Steve_Austin), [The Undertaker](/source/The_Undertaker), [Kane](/source/Kane_(wrestler)), and [Chris Jericho](/source/Chris_Jericho).

## Personal life

With former wife Fran, Larkin is the father of son Ken and daughters Claire and Holly.[6]
