# Bob Fairman

**Robert Samuel Fairman** (13 July 1883 – 1968) was an English [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [full back](/source/Full_back_(association_football)) or [wing half](/source/Wing_half). He scored two goals in 38 appearances in [the Football League](/source/The_Football_League) over two spells for [Birmingham](/source/Birmingham_City_F.C.),[1] and played 90 [Southern League](/source/Southern_Football_League) matches for [West Ham United](/source/West_Ham_United).[4]

Fairman was born in [Southampton](/source/Southampton), [Hampshire](/source/Hampshire). He began his football career with [Southampton](/source/Southampton_F.C.), although he never played a first-team match, before joining [Birmingham](/source/Birmingham_City_F.C.) in 1907.[5] He played regularly at [left half](/source/Wing_half) at the start of the [1908–09 season](/source/1908%E2%80%9309_Birmingham_City_F.C._season), but lost his place when the club signed [Thomas Daykin](/source/Thomas_Daykin),[6] and he moved to [West Ham United](/source/West_Ham_United_F.C.), then a [Southern League](/source/Southern_Football_League) club, at the end of the season. He spent three years with West Ham, playing more than 100 games in all competitions, before returning to Birmingham in 1912.[4] He played little first-team football after his return, and retired from the game in 1917.[7]
