# Bob Beak

**Robert Michael Cawthorn Beak** [OBE](/source/Order_of_the_British_Empire)[1] (1925 – 13 January 2018) was an [Anglican](/source/Anglican) bishop.

Beak trained at the [London Bible College](/source/London_Bible_College), was [ordained](/source/Ordained) [deacon](/source/Deacon) in 1953 and priest in 1954, serving his Title ([curacy](/source/Curacy)) at [St John's Church](/source/St_John's_Church,_Royal_Tunbridge_Wells), [Tunbridge Wells](/source/Royal_Tunbridge_Wells), 1953–1955. Associated with the [Bible Churchmen's Missionary Society](/source/Bible_Churchmen's_Missionary_Society) 1955–1956 and 1984–1989, he spent 1956–1969 and 1984–1989 in Kenya. Between these stints, he was a parish priest in [Devon](/source/Devon).[1] There, he was [Rector](/source/Rector_(academia)) of [Heanton](/source/Heanton_Punchardon) from 1970[2] (and of [Marwood, Devon](/source/Marwood,_Devon) from 1979), being also [rural dean](/source/Rural_dean) of [Barnstaple](/source/Barnstaple) (1977–1981) and a [prebendary](/source/Prebendary) of [Exeter Cathedral](/source/Exeter_Cathedral) (1982–1984).[1]

All of these appointments ended with his 1984 appointment and [consecration](/source/Consecration) as Assistant Bishop of [Marsabit](/source/Marsabit)[3] in the [Diocese of Mount Kenya East](/source/Diocese_of_Mount_Kenya_East),[4] [Church of the Province of Kenya](/source/Church_of_the_Province_of_Kenya), where he remained until 1989. He brought development to Marsabit by planted churches and trained evangelists. Through [Crosslinks](/source/Crosslinks), he oversaw feeding programmes and helped the Government distribute. For his work during the famine and in Kenya, he was later awarded the OBE.[1] Marsabit became an autonomous [diocese](/source/Diocese) in 2011.

He retired in 1990 and became an [Officer of the Order of the British Empire](/source/Officer_of_the_Order_of_the_British_Empire) (OBE) that year.[1] From 1991, he was licensed as an [honorary assistant bishop](/source/Honorary_assistant_bishop) in the [Diocese of Derby](/source/Diocese_of_Derby), [Church of England](/source/Church_of_England).[1] He retired (again) from ministry in July 2013, having been a priest at [All Saints' Church, Ashover](/source/All_Saints'_Church,_Ashover).[5]

He died on 13 January 2018 at the age of 92.[6]
