The **Blue Chip 30**, also called the **Cape Cod 30**, is an American [sailboat](/source/Sailboat) that was designed by [A. Sidney DeWolf Herreshoff](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=A._Sidney_DeWolf_Herreshoff&action=edit&redlink=1) as a [cruiser](/source/Cruising_(maritime)) and first built in 1961.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

## Production

The design was built by [Cape Cod Shipbuilding](/source/Cape_Cod_Shipbuilding) in the [United States](/source/United_States) from 1961 until 1985, but it is now out of production.[1][5][7][8][9]

## Design

The Blue Chip 30 is a recreational [keelboat](/source/Keelboat), built predominantly of [fiberglass](/source/Fiberglass), with wood trim. It has a [masthead sloop](/source/Masthead_sloop) rig; a spooned, [raked stem](/source/Raked_stem) with a [bowsprit](/source/Bowsprit); a raised counter, angled [transom](/source/Transom_(nautical)), a [keel](/source/Keel)-mounted [rudder](/source/Rudder) controlled by a [tiller](/source/Tiller) and a fixed long keel. It displaces 7,000 lb (3,175 kg) and carries 3,250 lb (1,474 kg) of lead ballast.[1][5]

The boat has a draft of 5.00 ft (1.52 m) with the standard keel and is fitted with an [inboard engine](/source/Inboard_engine) for docking and maneuvering.[1][5]

The design has sleeping accommodation for four people, with a double ["V"-berth](/source/%22V%22-berth) in the bow cabin and a two straight settee berths in the main cabin. The [galley](/source/Galley_(kitchen)) is located on the starboard side just aft of the bow cabin. The galley is equipped with a two-burner stove, an [ice box](/source/Ice_box) and a sink. The [head](/source/Head_(watercraft)) is located just aft of the bow cabin on the port side.[1][5]

The design has a [hull speed](/source/Hull_speed) of 6.45 kn (11.95 km/h).[5]
