# Bloomfield Schools

**Bloomfield Schools** (also known as the **Bloomfield School District**) is a public [school district](/source/School_district) based in [Bloomfield](/source/Bloomfield,_New_Mexico), [New Mexico](/source/New_Mexico), [United States](/source/United_States). The district covers a 1,508-square mile (3,910-square kilometre) area[1] in eastern and southeastern [San Juan County](/source/San_Juan_County,_New_Mexico).

In addition to the majority of Bloomfield, the district also serves the communities of [Angustura](/source/Angustura,_New_Mexico), [Blanco](/source/Blanco,_New_Mexico), [Nageezi](/source/Nageezi,_New_Mexico), [Turley](/source/Turley,_New_Mexico), [West Hammond](/source/West_Hammond,_New_Mexico), most of [Navajo Dam](/source/Navajo_Dam,_New_Mexico), and a portion of [Lee Acres](/source/Lee_Acres,_New_Mexico).[2] It also includes [Huerfano](/source/Huerfano,_New_Mexico).[3]

## Demographics

There were a total of 3,187 students enrolled in Bloomfield Schools during the 2007–2008 school year. The gender makeup of the district was 48.23% female and 51.77% male.[12] The racial makeup of the district was 33.57% Hispanic, 33.04% White, 32.48% Native American, 0.56% African American, and 0.35% Asian/Pacific Islander.[13]
