# Bloom (musical)

Australian musical

***Bloom*** is an Australian musical with book and lyrics by [Tom Gleisner](/source/Tom_Gleisner), music by Katie Weston and directed by Dean Bryant. Set in an aged care facility, the musical comedy is a story of intergenerational connection and the power of music.[1]

It was originally produced by the [Melbourne Theatre Company](/source/Melbourne_Theatre_Company) at the [Arts Centre Melbourne](/source/Arts_Centre_Melbourne) Playhouse, from 18 July to 26 August 2023. The cast included [Anne Edmonds](/source/Anne_Edmonds), [Frankie J. Holden](/source/Frankie_J._Holden), [Evelyn Krape](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Evelyn_Krape&action=edit&redlink=1), Vidya Makan, [Maria Mercedes](/source/Maria_Mercedes_(actress)), Eddie Muliaumaseali’i, [John O’May](/source/John_O'May), Christina O’Neill, Jackie Rees and Slone Sudiro.

A Sydney season at the [Roslyn Packer Theatre](/source/Roslyn_Packer_Theatre) for the [Sydney Theatre Company](/source/Sydney_Theatre_Company) is scheduled for March to May 2025.[2] The Sydney production features new actors [Christie Whelan Browne](/source/Christie_Whelan_Browne) and [John Waters](/source/John_Waters_(actor)) with all other Melbourne cast members returning.[3]

The musical was generally well received.[4][5][6] It received a 2024 [Green Room Award](/source/Green_Room_Awards) for New Australian Music Theatre Writing.[7]
