Born in [Kindersley, Saskatchewan](/source/Kindersley%2C_Saskatchewan), Evans was drafted 251st overall by the [Washington Capitals](/source/Washington_Capitals) in the [1998 NHL entry draft](/source/1998_NHL_entry_draft) but never played in the [National Hockey League](/source/National_Hockey_League).

He started his career with the [WHL](/source/Western_Hockey_League) team [Spokane Chiefs](/source/Spokane_Chiefs) in 1996. After one and a half season, he was traded to the [Tri-City Americans](/source/Tri-City_Americans) (also in the WHL) along with Regan Darby for [Zenith Komarniski](/source/Zenith_Komarniski) on 6 October 1997.<ref name="NHL">{{cite web|title=Blake Evans – Player profile|url=http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=8467554&view=notes|work=NHL.com|accessdate=19 September 2010}}</ref>

On 8 January 2001, he got traded to [Regina Pats](/source/Regina_Pats) (WHL) along with Jeff Feniak for [Shawn Belle](/source/Shawn_Belle), Joey Bastien, Justin Lucyshyn and future considerations. He made the WHL East Second All-Star Team the same year. A few months after he was re-signed as a free agent by the [St. Louis Blues](/source/St._Louis_Blues) on 11 April 2001, and assigned to the [Worcester IceCats](/source/Worcester_IceCats) and later the [Peoria Rivermen](/source/Peoria_Rivermen_(ECHL)).<ref name="NHL" />
