'''Black tin''' is the raw [ore](/source/ore) of [tin](/source/tin), usually [cassiterite](/source/cassiterite), as sold by a [tin mine](/source/tin_mine) to a [smelting](/source/smelting) company. After mining, the ore must be concentrated by several processes to reduce the amount of [gangue](/source/gangue) it contains before it can be sold. It contrasts with [white tin](/source/white_tin), which is the [refined](/source/Refining), metallic tin produced after smelting.

The term "black tin" was historically associated with [tin mining](/source/tin_mining) in [Devon](/source/Devon) and [Cornwall](/source/Cornwall).
