'''''Black Labyrinth''''' is the debut solo studio album by American vocalist [Jonathan Davis](/source/Jonathan_Davis) (best known as the frontman of [nu metal](/source/nu_metal) band [Korn](/source/Korn)). The album was released on May 25, 2018, through [Sumerian Records](/source/Sumerian_Records).

The first single, "[What It Is](/source/What_It_Is_(Jonathan_Davis_song))", was released on January 26, 2018, as part of the soundtrack to the movie ''[American Satan](/source/American_Satan)''.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://teamrock.com/news/2018-01-26/korns-jonathan-davis-releases-new-solo-song-what-it-is|title = Korn's Jonathan Davis releases new solo song What It is|date = January 26, 2018}}</ref>

==Background==
Jonathan Davis had hinted at a solo album for a number of years, first working without his bandmates in [Korn](/source/Korn) when he collaborated on the ''[Queen of the Damned](/source/Queen_of_the_Damned)'' soundtrack. Word of a full solo album began to circulate in the mid-2000s when Davis began touring and writing with his solo band, [Jonathan Davis and the SFA](/source/Jonathan_Davis_and_the_SFA), with whom he released two live albums, ''[Alone I Play](/source/Alone_I_Play)'' (2007) and ''Live at the Union Chapel'' (2011). The SFA was disbanded after the death of guitarist [Shane Gibson](/source/Shane_Gibson_(musician)). Over the next decade, Davis would continue to write solo material while performing with Korn, and in January 2018 announced a North American and European tour in support of a new album that would come out later in the year.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://loudwire.com/jonathan-davis-announces-debut-solo-headlining-tour/|title = Jonathan Davis Announces Debut Solo Headlining Tour|website = [Loudwire](/source/Loudwire) | date=January 29, 2018 }}</ref> That same month, he released the song ''[What It Is](/source/What_It_Is_(Jonathan_Davis_song))''.

In March 2018, [Sumerian Records](/source/Sumerian_Records) revealed an official teaser for the album, which revealed the title, artwork and release date, along with snippets of each track on the album.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.kerrang.com/the-news/korns-jonathan-davis-has-previewed-black-labyrinth-solo-album/|title=Jonathan Davis Has Previewed Every Song on His Black Labyrinth Solo Album |date=March 20, 2018 }}</ref> While a full list of musicians has yet to be officially released, it has been confirmed that [Ray Luzier](/source/Ray_Luzier), [Wes Borland](/source/Wes_Borland), [Miles Mosley](/source/Miles_Mosley), [Mike Dillon](/source/Mike_Dillon_(musician)) and [Shenkar](/source/L._Shankar) have all made appearances on the album.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.laweekly.com/music/jonathan-davis-takes-a-break-from-korn-9349375|title=Jonathan Davis Takes a Break from Korn|date=April 11, 2018}}</ref>
