# Bjergsted

Until 1 January 2007, **Bjergsted** was a municipality ([Danish](/source/Danish_language), *[kommune](/source/Commune_(subnational_entity))*) in [West Zealand County](/source/West_Zealand_County) on the west coast of the island of [Zealand](/source/Zealand_(Denmark)) (*Sjælland*) in [Denmark](/source/Denmark). The municipality included the islands of [Sejerø](/source/Sejer%C3%B8) and [Nekselø](/source/Neksel%C3%B8), and covered an area of 138.62 km2. It had a total population of 8,047 (2005). Its last mayor was Gert Larsen, a member of the [Venstre](/source/Venstre_(Denmark)) (Liberal Party) [political party](/source/Politics_of_Denmark). The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of [Svebølle](/source/Sveb%C3%B8lle).

Bjergsted municipality ceased to exist as the result of [*Kommunalreformen* ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007)](/source/Municipalities_of_Denmark#Municipal_Reform_2007). It was merged into the [Kalundborg](/source/Kalundborg) municipality along with former [Gørlev](/source/G%C3%B8rlev), [Hvidebæk](/source/Hvideb%C3%A6k), [Høng](/source/H%C3%B8ng), and [Kalundborg](/source/Kalundborg) municipalities. This created a municipality with an area of 598 km2 and a total population of 48,697 (2005).
