Bitz became an independent municipality within the [Kingdom of Württemberg](/source/Kingdom_of_W%C3%BCrttemberg) in 1832. It was assigned in 1806 to [Oberamt Balingen](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Oberamt_Balingen&action=edit&redlink=1) [[de](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberamt_Balingen)], reorganized in 1938 as [Landkreis Balingen](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Landkreis_Balingen&action=edit&redlink=1) [[de](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landkreis_Balingen)]. A flag was issued by the government of the provisional [Württemberg-Hohenzollern](/source/W%C3%BCrttemberg-Hohenzollern) on 8 May 1951. The first pattern was a [seal](/source/Seal_(emblem)) from 1930 with two [bobbins](/source/Bobbin) and two [sewing needles](/source/Sewing_needles). This was replaced on 14 March 1938 with a coat of arms displaying a silver loom with blue thread, which was approved by the local [Reichsstatthalter](/source/Reichsstatthalter), [Wilhelm Murr](/source/Wilhelm_Murr). Both these patterns recalled Bitz's industrial history, but in 1958 the loom was replaced with the eagle wing to represent the House of Lichtenstein; the stag horn, references Württemberg.[3]
