**Bitboys [Oy](/source/Osakeyhti%C3%B6)** was a hardware development and licensing company based in [Finland](/source/Finland), founded in 1991 and acquired by [ATI Technologies](/source/ATI_Technologies) for up to [US$](/source/USD)44M on May 2, 2006.[1] Until the acquisition, Bitboys had focused on [mobile phone](/source/Mobile_phone) [gaming](/source/Video_game), and had developed a large [vector graphics](/source/Vector_graphics)-related portfolio.[2]

Bitboys was formed by some of the members of the [demogroup](/source/Demogroup) [Future Crew](/source/Future_Crew).[3][4]

Bitboys became infamous after the 1999 announcement of their [Glaze3D](/source/Glaze3D) series of [graphics cards](/source/Graphics_card), which later turned out to be [vaporware](/source/Vaporware).[5] When [Infineon Technologies](/source/Infineon_Technologies) shut down its embedded [DRAM](/source/Dynamic_random-access_memory) production line, Bitboys quickly transformed from PC desktop graphics chip business to mobile graphics IP business.[6] They could not find another manufacturer capable of producing the part because of the high amount of embedded [DRAM](/source/Dynamic_random-access_memory) used.

After the merger of ATI into the [AMD](/source/AMD) Graphics Product Group, the entire BitBoys Oy team was acquired by [Qualcomm](/source/Qualcomm) on January 22, 2009,[7] following the sale of AMD [Imageon](/source/Imageon) intellectual property to Qualcomm.
