From there, he moved to [North Carolina State](/source/NC_State_Wolfpack_football), coaching [linebacker](/source/linebacker)s under [Bo Rein](/source/Bo_Rein) (1977–1979). When Rein was named head coach at [Louisiana State](/source/LSU_Tigers_football), Harris followed him in the same capacity. In 1984, Harris joined the coaching staff at [Notre Dame](/source/Notre_Dame_Fighting_Irish_football) under [Gerry Faust](/source/Gerry_Faust).
