Defunct provincial electoral district in Manitoba, Canada

**Birtle-Russell** is a former [provincial electoral district](/source/Electoral_district_(Canada)) in [Manitoba](/source/Manitoba), Canada.

Birtle-Russell was established in 1957, created by the first Independent Boundaries Commission in Manitoba. It was located in the western part of the province, on the border with [Saskatchewan](/source/Saskatchewan).[1] It included the area around the towns of Birtle and Russell. Political power in the area shifted between the [Progressive Conservatives](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Party_of_Manitoba) and the [Liberal-Progressives](/source/Manitoba_Liberal_Party) and [Liberals](/source/Manitoba_Liberal_Party) until 1969. When the [New Democratic Party](/source/New_Democratic_Party_of_Manitoba) first came to office the area became a [Progressive Conservative](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Party_of_Manitoba) stronghold.
