# Birkenes IL

**Birkenes Idrettslag** is a [Norwegian](/source/Norway) sports club from [Birkeland](/source/Birkeland,_Agder), [Agder](/source/Agder). It has sections for [association football](/source/Association_football), [team handball](/source/Team_handball), [volleyball](/source/Volleyball), [cycling](/source/Cycle_sport), [track and field](/source/Track_and_field), [orienteering](/source/Orienteering), [biathlon](/source/Biathlon), and [Nordic skiing](/source/Nordic_skiing).

It is known for its biathletes. [Gunn Margit Andreassen](/source/Gunn_Margit_Andreassen) represented the club,[2] so does [Lars Helge Birkeland](/source/Lars_Helge_Birkeland).[3] Cyclist [Dag Erik Pedersen](/source/Dag_Erik_Pedersen) also represented the club.

The men's football team played in the [Third Division](/source/Norwegian_Third_Division), the fourth tier of Norwegian football, in [1998](/source/1998_Norwegian_Third_Division). It currently resides in the Fifith Division.
