# Birger Jansen

**Birger Jansen** (7 January 1948 – 7 November 2016) was a Norwegian [ice hockey](/source/Ice_hockey) player and sailor.

He was born in [Bærum](/source/B%C3%A6rum) and represented the clubs [Jar IL](/source/Jar_IL) and [IF Frisk Asker](/source/IF_Frisk_Asker). He played for the [Norwegian national ice hockey team](/source/Norway_men's_national_ice_hockey_team), and participated at the [Winter Olympics](/source/Winter_Olympics) in [Sapporo](/source/Sapporo) in 1972, where the Norwegian team placed 8th out of 11 teams.[1][2]

He was [European champion in the Snipe class](/source/Snipe_European_Championship) in 2000, [Masters World Champion](/source/Id_Crook_Memorial_Trophy) in 1996, and many times Norwegian champion. He also placed third at the 1991 [Snipe Worlds](/source/Commodore_Hub_E._Isaacks_and_O'Leary_Trophies). Birger was also [SCIRA](/source/SCIRA) commodore in 2002.[3] He died in 2016.[4][2]
