==Early life and education==
Verma attended the [Rashtriya Indian Military College](/source/Rashtriya_Indian_Military_College) (RIMC), [Dehradun](/source/Dehradun). He later attended the [National Defence Academy](/source/National_Defence_Academy_(India)) where he was adjudged the Best Naval Cadet. ==Career==
Verma was commissioned into the Navy on 1 January 1980.
